Mahendra Singh Dhoni brings down the curtain by announcing his retirement from International Cricket. M.S Dhoni and Suresh Raina have stunned the whole nation on Saturday 15 Aug, by announcing their retirement from the international cricket. MS Dhoni was the first to announce his retirement and he brought the curtain down on his over 15-year career as an India cricketer when he posted on Instagram, calling an end to his international playing career. MS Dhoni has been one of the best wicket-keepers to play international cricket and his record speaks for itself. The 39-year-old last played for India in the World Cup 2019 semi-final loss to New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester, played over two days on July 9 and 10.
And as if his decision wasn’t enough to shock the country, Suresh Raina soon followed the suit. Member of World Cup-winning team of India 2011, the left-handed batsman also took to his social media accounts to announce his retirement from the international cricket, and says, “It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781. With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you on this journey. Thank you, India, Jai Hind!”
MS Dhoni wrote along with an Instagram post of a medley capturing his career with the national team, “Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”
MS Dhoni, who had announced his retirement from Tests in 2014, has played 350 One-day Internationals (ODIs) and 98 T20 Internationals and in 350 ODIs, Dhoni had scored 10773 runs at an average of 50.57. He has 10 centuries and 73 fifties to his name. Dhoni collective 1617 runs in 98 T20Is at an average of 37.60, including two half-centuries.
In January 2019, Dhoni added another feather to his cap as he has become fifth Indian and 12th overall in ODI history to score 10,000 runs. The former India skipper achieved the milestone during the first ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 12.
Dhoni joined the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Sourav Ganguly, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Brian Lara on the elite list. The 2011 World Cup-winning captain is only the second wicketkeeper-batsman to touch the 10000- run mark. Sangakkara was the first chosen wicketkeeper-batsman to achieve the landmark.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India lifted the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the World Twenty20 in 2007. Dhoni also led India to the ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2013 in England. India left-handed batsman Suresh Raina announced a sudden retirement from international cricket last week. The announcement has come just a few minutes after former India captain MS Dhoni announced his decision to hang up his international boots. Both Dhoni and Raina posted posts on Instagram to reveal their decisions. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra said that the announcement of Raina was actually unexpected.
“This was actually a bolt from the blue and there are 2-3 reasons for that. First of all, Raina is only 33 years old, so he is somewhat young,” Chopra said in the latest video uploaded on his Youtube channel.
“According to an interview with Suresh Raina, he constantly said that he was looking forward to playing for India again. He has said that he was doing his best and would be scoring a lot of runs. He said that after his knee surgery he was feeling hitting and stronger the ball well,” the former India batsman said.
“Raina was also an under-rated bowler, the way he used to bowl with a clean action, and outing the ball in one place and also picking crucial wickets. It was like playing one extra man and I feel what happened with Suresh Raina in ODI cricket, everything as not correct. Because he was not provided a proper batting number so he didn’t get the No.3 or No.4 position, he was always sent No.5 to No.7,” Chopra went on.
And after that, he was posting videos on Instagram, where he was constantly practicing and putting a lot of effort. Chopra further explained, when you see someone putting so much effort, you feel that it is going to happen. In fact, the only thing I was looking forward to was him playing for CSK and scoring a lot of runs and force the selectors to pick him.
Raina added, “After announcing our retirement, we hugged and cried a lot. I, Ambati Rayudu, Piyush, Karn, Kedar Jadhav sat together after that, talked about our careers and our relationship. We had partied whole night.”
Raina added that the two cricketers had already made a decision to announce their retirement on August 15. Although it was 73 years since India got Independence, Raina’s Jersey was 3 while Dhoni’s Jersy was 7 and therefore the two decided that it was a great occasion to hang up their boots mutually.
The silence has since been noisy through the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni’s final tournament for India, and for 13 months thereafter. It would remain that method until the very end. When he finally called it a day, Indian Cricket’s most captivating speaker allowed a short caption and a Mukesh’s song to do all his talking.
M.S Dhoni’s future was really a hot topic of speculation as to his vacation from cricket following the World Cup of India exit. Ever since the overcome to New Zealand, Dhoni didn’t play any form of cricket in the last year, hinting he might have played his last in INDIA Colors. Dhoni, yet, would be turning up in the IPL where he will captain the CSK, Chennai Super Kings in the 13th season of tournament in the UAE.
