The first and foremost sector for any country is its education system. For any country, if the education system isn’t proper and strong then, no matter how strong that country is, it will stay backward. The Indian Government has exposed a new policy. For any long years, the education system has stayed quiet and there are many things that are to be changed. As the generation is changing and getting smart so does the adaption of the learning system should change and hopefully, this new policy brings that.
This is a revolutionary step that certain education policy has come after over 3 decades. The change is not just in the name of HRD ministry to Education ministry, but the complete education system essentially has been re-shaped. Students up till 5th standard will be taught in their mother tongue or regional language, the sabbatical option has also been provided to undergrad students.
India has got a new education policy after 34 years and it promises far-reaching reform in the whole system of learning. To start with, the Human Resource Development ministry has been renamed as a ministry of education. Both the Technical education council and UGC have combined together. The new policy has renovated the school and higher education system. Among the great changes in the school education, the education medium till five will be in the mother tongue its regional language.
The advanced policy is set to focus on Vocational studies. Vocation education will be taught in class 6 by conducting an internship. In a mist to cover up digital learning – A national educational technology forum will be organized. It has said that E-courses will be developed in every regional language in the beginning and the virtual lab also is developed. In higher education, there will be a single regulator for all institutions except for the medical and law stream and M.Phil will be now discontinued. The undergraduate degree will now be either three or four years while with multiple exit and options. Giving students the independence to take a break and continue where they left.
Just like how in a bank, there are multiple accounts, just like that, in college the save credits for the students such as 1 year – Certificate, 2 Years- Diploma, 3 Years- degree wise. The four-year program might be also reached to a degree if the students will complete a thorough research project. With the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak destructing learning, modifications have also been made to lessen the content of learning in the curriculum. With these outstanding schemes, hopefully, the number of dropouts will reduce and it will bring advanced learning that can enhance the students of Indian to have education in the developed country. This new and advanced education policy is aimed at providing equal opportunities for all students.
Implications in schools
Essentially, what the education policy has said is that Schooling will be 3 to 18 years old,. They have broken it down to several levels as well. It is now set to follow the 5+3+3+4 rule. Five years will be the foundation course and this will be from 3 to 8 years of age. The next 3 years for 9 to 11 years are preparatory courses. And then, you have middle education that will be from 11 to 14 years age limit and finally, now there are 4 years of secondary learning. The main interesting matter of this is, that this policy has also highlighted the regards of 3 language policy that is always been there- which will be continued but the local language will be medium of instructions toll class 5th.
It has been controversial and there has been a lot of shock reactions for this and after that, also what the education policy states are that the local language or the regional language will be the selected medium of lesions till class 8th as well. Therefore, the students who are more interested in selecting arts or sciences will be able to choose these subjects.
There is going to be less stress on board exams, this is a welcome move because the students will not have to think about on this examination. Now, the most interesting part is that there is going to be more focus on vocation education and on an internship as well. As per the education policy, the internship will start off from class 6th to make sure that the student is getting trained in this sector or in the course in which they are interested.
Implication on college students
There is going to be a common college entrance test and it will happen twice a year, and there will be also a new national testing agency that will be set up for choosing the criteria for the test. A four-year bachelor’s program is irrespective of the course you select. Where it is a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, it is going to be a four-year program. Students can also be on leave that is just like taking a break and, it means that they will have the option of taking a vacation and entire the degree later. It wasn’t available in India before that was available in many countries. Autonomy is going to be for the colleges to go ahead and provide degrees. It means that there is not more affiliation with universities. Colleges will have the authority to hand over the degrees and there is also a proposed fee cap for the personal institutions with regard to the higher learning. It is another welcome step the free cap will be now determined upon by the private institutions’ authority and it is for higher learning.
Another boost with Regards to assuring that there is more correspondence between the Indian universities and foreign universities is that the Top Indian Colleges will be setting up a foreign campus and apart from that global varsity will be provided a lot more space to input India and it will assure that there will be a more exchange of education and much more exchange of student programs which happen and these two major points will provide a boost to them.
It is an amazing decision and the entire framework and the modifications that are to be executed in the education system is a long-awaited one. The country is loaded with various people when any decision is taken there are two sides, those who support and those who oppose if the Indian government plans to make changes then, the people start saying why you did these things and start finding fault in the changes. If the government doesn’t do anything then, again the people start taunting for its ineffectiveness. But the thing is, we should do something to take steps towards progress. In these steps, there will be something that is best as well as things that will disagree with the views. But taking that step is the most essential part of moving forward and as in that case, this is definitely a step which will bring revolution in the education system.
