Paytm is back on the Play Store a few hours after the app was taken down because of violating policies on gambling. Earlier today, Google has removed the Paytm app from the Google Play Store while other applications such as Paytm for Business, Paytm Money, Paytm mall, and a few more were still available on the platform.

Paytm Reaction on This

Commenting on the matter Paytm issued an official statement and also said Google has suspended the application as it is violated the policies of Play Store on gambling. The company said, “We continue working with Google to retrieve the app. We assure all the users that their balances and linked accounts are all safe and 100% secure. The services are fully functional on all the available applications and you can now enjoy Paytm like before.

The policy of Google Play Store on Gambling

Google forbids online casinos as well as other un-regulated gambling applications on its play store. Not only this, but fantasy sports platforms such as Dream 11 are also kept out. The tech giant also said that an app which leads the consumers to an external site which allows them to participate in the paid tournaments to real money and clearly violates the policies of the Play Store.

In a blog post, the Vice President of Google Suzanne Frey posted that, Android Security, Product and Privacy explains that, “We don’t and we won’t allow online casinos or support any un-regulated gambling applications which facilitate sports betting. It consists of if an application leads the consumers to an external website that lets them participate in the paid tournaments to win cash prizes or real money, it is the violation of our policies.

According to Frey notes, “We have these policies to safeguard the users from possible harm and when any app violates these policies, we alert the violation’s developer and also removes the application from Google Play unless the developer brings the app into compliance.”

Paytm is back on Google Play Store hours after it was taken down and taking into preference the popularity of this financial services platform made in India, that recently enjoys the support of almost 50 million active users. In short, the Vice President has said that, when an app violates these policies, it has noticed that the developer of the violation and, also remove the app from Google Play unless the developer brings the application into the trend. In case, where there are continuous policy violations, Google takes a strict action that might include terminating the Google Play Developer accounts. The policies are applied and enforced on all developed regularly.

Is it Safe to use Paytm?

Even with Paytm removed from the Google Play, the application has still remained functional for active users who have already have installed Paytm on their phone. Now the question arises, is it safe to use it on the phones? This question comes in mind because it is a big step that has been taken by Google. In such a case, is it safe to use or to uninstall it from the device?

Well, the answer to that question is Yes! It is still safe to use Paytm and you don’t need to uninstall it from your device. As one of the most famous financial services apps in India, Paytm is central to the daily way of life for millions of Indians in Urban and semi-Urban centers around the country. The deep reach of its permeates even so many villages and other rural areas and makes it almost impossible to discard at the drop of the hat.

But as mentioned before, fortunately, we don’t need to remove the Paytm application from the phones or stop using the platform simultaneously from this moment on. The cause of this issue is that as a platform, Paytm has remained the same sort of secure and safe financial services platform which it was yesterday or a day before yesterday.

The main thing that has modified is that the Android application for the platform has been found in the violation of the complex rule of Google across online gambling, cash prizes, and contest. But that, in effect has no bearing in the transaction security that is made via the platforms. Therefore, in effect, as a user, if you were comfortable by using Paytm to make online transactions yesterday, the latest move of Google shouldn’t make any difference to you today.

This is something that even Paytm has also tried to explain through a tweet shared via its official handle. It has explained that the app has been removed from the Play Store on a temporary basis and that the company is working towards bringing it back to users soon enough, in a tweet. The tweet also has clarified that till then, the platform will remain functional for existing users and that they can continue by making secure transactions unless the time the app comes back online on the Google Play platform.

After the app was retrieved, Paytm Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has tweeted, “Thanks everyone for your support! Paytm Application is back, live in Play Store. We have launched a UPI CashBack campaign this morning. The app got suspended by Google for this. India, now you decide if giving cashback in gambling.”
