If you are planning to travel abroad in this pandemic, you have to take care of rules which are changing. It has become really difficult to predict what is going to happen. Everyone entering the UK must take a PCR test within the first two days of arrival, booked in advance, and self-isolate unless the result is a negative and pre-departure test taken within 48 hours.

Travel Rules for everyone else

As per the govt. the announcement doesn’t change the travel rules for anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated with both doses. At present anyone who is traveling to Scotland, Northern Ireland, or Wales.

  • Prior Departure- All UK travelers aged 12 and over must have negative test report even after fully vaccinated. This can be PCR or lateral flow test and should be taken two days before departure for the UK.
  • You must have a private test provider for this. Free NHS tests aren’t allowed. The COVID test will be performed either in the country where you can just start traveling or in another country UK. If you have tested positive, you should follow the rules in the country you are in and not travel to the UK.
  • After arriving in the UK- You have two days to take another test that should be a PCR. The test booking should be done before the travel. After that it should be bought from the provider list that is approved by government privately.
  • While you are waiting for the result, you should isolate yourself even if you are vaccinated. You can choose to stop self-isolation if the test is negative. Apart from this, all travelers coming to the UK should fill and submit an online passenger locator form no more than 45 hours arriving even if they are just passing through the UK.

The testing rules don’t apply to travelers from Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man (unless they have been in another country in the 10 days before departure for the UK). When the Omicron variant emerged, some countries start introducing travel restrictions.
